
What to know
- Most grocery stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, but select Farm Boy, Loblaws, Metro, Eataly, Whole Foods and Rabba locations will remain open.
- All LCBO and Beer Store retail locations will be closed, although some Wine Rack locations will be open.
- Select shopping malls, including CF Toronto Eaton Centre, Square One and Vaughan Mills, will operate with modified hours.

Grocery stores
Those planning to cook a big Thanksgiving feast better get their ingredients early on, as most grocery stores will be closed for the holiday.
There are a few exceptions, including:
- Some Loblaws locations
- Farm Boy at 100 Queens Quay E. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Farm Boy at 207 Queens Quay W. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Farm Boy at 777 Bay St. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Farm Boy at 81 St Clair Ave. E. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Metro at College Park (444 Yonge St.) from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Eataly Yorkville (55 Bloor St. W.) from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Whole Foods at Square One (155 Square One Dr.) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All 24/7 Rabba Fine Foods locations will remain open for Thanksgiving.
Some Shoppers Drug Mart locations will also stay open for the holiday, its hours can be found on the store locator.
Alcohol stores
Those planning to make drinks or enjoy a glass of wine on Thanksgiving might also need to plan ahead.
All LCBO stores will be closed on Thanksgiving. The Beer Store retail locations will also be closed for the day.
Meanwhile, some Wine Rack locations will remain open. Residents can use the store locator to find their nearest one.
Shopping malls
Some malls will be open with modified hours on Thanksgiving, including:
- The CF Toronto Eaton Centre (220 Yonge St.) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Square One (100 City Centre Dr., Mississauga) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Vaughan Mills from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (1 Bass Pro Mills Dr.)
Dufferin Mall, Scarborough Town Centre, Yorkdale Mall, and CF Fairview Mall will be fully closed on Thanksgiving.
Government offices, libraries, banks
Service Canada and Service Ontario locations will be fully closed on Thanksgiving.
All Toronto Public Library locations will also be closed on both Sunday, Oct. 11 and Monday, Oct. 12.
All physical bank branches will be closed for the holiday.
Transit holiday schedule and closures
The TTC will operate on its Sunday schedule during Thanksgiving, with service starting a bit earlier at 6 a.m.
Service on subway lines 1, 2, and 4 will start at 6 a.m. and end at 2 a.m., with exact times varying by station. Line 5 Eglinton LRT will operate between 5:30 a.m. and 1:20 a.m., and Line 6 Finch West LRT from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Bus and streetcar routes will run on individual schedules, which can be found on the TTC website.
Riders should also prepare to deal with planned service disruptions and closures this Thanksgiving weekend.
Line 2 Bloor-Danforth will be closed between Kipling and Jane stations starting at 6 a.m. on Oct. 9 until Oct. 12 due to planned infrastructure upgrades. Shuttle buses will be running and TTC staff will be on-site to assist customers.
During the closure, entrance to the Royal York Station will be closed, while other stations will remain open for customers to buy or load PRESTO cards or connect to other routes.
Line 2 service between St. George and Broadview stations will also begin later at 11 a.m. on Monday to accommodate a beam inspection and replacement along the Prince Edward Viaduct. Shuttle bus service will be running until regular service resumes.
Bay and Sherbourne stations will also be closed, as well as the Yonge St. entrance to Line 2 at Bloor-Yonge Station. All other stations will operate normally.
Meanwhile, GO Transit routes will be running on a Saturday schedule, with exact times varying by train.
GO riders can also take advantage of the Weekend Pass, which allows them to ride all day during one weekend day or statutory holiday (including Thanksgiving) for only $10. More information on schedules and passes can be found on the GO Transit website.
Tourist attractions
Those visiting the city for the holiday or planning to explore the city will still be able to visit some of its main attractions, which will remain open, including:
- CN Tower (290 Bremner Blvd.) from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Ripley’s Aquarium (288 Bremner Blvd.) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Art Gallery of Ontario (317 Dundas St W.) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Royal Ontario Museum (100 Queens Park) from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Toronto Zoo (2000 Meadowvale Rd., Scarborough) from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Canada’s Wonderland (1 Canada’s Wonderland Dr., Vaughan) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Casa Loma (1 Austin Terrace) from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
