Toronto weather watch for Saturday and Sunday

Toronto is heading into a cold and rainy Saturday just as Bruno Mars kicks off the first of five sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium this weekend.

Forecasts are calling for light rain throughout much of the day, with temperatures expected to dip near 9 C by the evening.

Bruno Mars said it best in It Will Rain, and unfortunately for fans heading to Saturday’s show, the forecast appears to be taking that lyric literally.

Mars is set to kick off the first of five performances at the outdoor Rogers Stadium on Saturday, but concert-goers hoping for sunshine and warm weather may want to pack a rain jacket instead.

What’s in the forecast?

According to The Weather Network, light rain is expected to begin Saturday morning and continue throughout much of the day, including around the time doors open at 5 p.m.

Opening acts Leon Thomas and DJ Pee Wee are scheduled to take the stage at 7:45 p.m., though there’s still a chance of rain during their performances. Forecasts also suggest showers could continue when Mars takes the stage at 8:45 p.m. and potentially last through the end of the concert around 11 p.m.

It won’t just be the rain that may catch fans off guard. Temperatures are expected to remain unusually cool for late May, with a daytime high of just 12 C. By showtime, temperatures could dip to around 9 C and stay there through the evening.

The wet and chilly conditions may feel familiar to some concert-goers. Last year, fans attending one of Chris Brown’s concerts at the stadium were also met with heavy rain.

Rogers Stadium does permit small collapsible umbrellas when rain is in the forecast, though large umbrellas are prohibited inside the venue.

Ponchos will also be available for purchase at guest services for fans looking to stay dry.
