Toronto’s Ripley’s Aquarium is celebrating its tenth birthday with an ambitious goal to set a Guinness World Record for the longest underwater live stream.

“We are thrilled to celebrate a decade of aquatic wonder at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada,” General Manager of Ripley’s Aquarium Peter Doyle said in a statement.

“Our goal has always been to inspire and educate our guests about the importance of ocean conservation, and the world record attempt for the longest underwater live stream is an exciting way to engage a global audience in our mission,” he added.

Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada has been one of the city’s top tourist attractions since it opened on Oct. 16, 2013. Today, it continues to attract millions of visitors with its interactive displays, diverse marine life and stunning exhibits.

The live stream aims to showcase a unique perspective and opportunity for viewers to witness the beauty of the aquatic life at Ripley’s Aquarium, where there’s thousands of marine animals from sharks, sting rays, sea turtles and more.

“The aquarium’s dedicated team will embark on an incredible 6-hour live stream, broadcasting the mesmerizing world beneath the waves in real-time live on the Aquariums YouTube channel,” the aquarium said in a media release.

The live steam will also include live feedings, behind-the-scenes glimpses, interviews with staff, and educational insights about behaviours and conservation needs. The live stream is set to begin on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m.

The aquarium will also be hosting birthday events for visitors who attend in person from Oct. 13 to 16, where there’ll be live music and family entertainment.
