A monthly drag concert series will take over CityView Drive-In on Saturday nights this summer.

Recent NOW cover star and Canada’s Drag Race season 1 queen Tynomi Banks will headline the first two Drive ‘N Queens Summer Series shows, which is scheduled to kick off on June 12. Canada’s Drag Race queens Jimbo and Lemon are also on the bill, as are Toronto’s Jada Hudson and Aurora Matrix.

The second drive-in drag show will feature Montreal’s Kiara and Toronto performers JuiceBoxx, Ivory Towers and Miss Fiercalicious on July 10. Performers for shows on August 21, September 18 and October 9 will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for both gigs start at $120 per car and are on sale now.

Banks recently became the second drag queen to appear in a Super Bowl commercial (after RuPaul), and is one of the most well-known drag performers in Toronto.

Drive-in events are currently not allowed under Ontario’s stay-at-home order. Pandemic restrictions are set to expire on May 20, but the province has not indicated whether restrictions will be maintained or loosened.

All city-permitted outdoor events and festivals, including Toronto Pride, are cancelled through July 1.

While indoor concerts and events have either been outright banned or severely restricted throughout the pandemic, public health officials have deemed drive-in shows safe at various points. Drive-in drag shows became popular in Toronto last summer, particularly after the inaugural season of Canada’s Drag Race began airing.
