Roller coaster fans are reacting after a beloved ride that’s been operating for over two decades at Canada’s Wonderland has been shut down forever.

In a recent TikTok video, the amusement park shared an update on construction work ahead of its opening in May.

Wonderland also shared that it recently said goodbye to one of its longest running attractions.

“After 26 years, Xtreme Skyflyer has been retired and the tower has been dismantled and removed,” Canada’s Wonderland Director of Communications Grace Peacock said in the video.

The ride opened in 1996 and operated every year at the park, except in 2020. A separate fee was required to experience the attraction.

Guests were lifted face down in a harness 47 metres high before freefalling and giving them the experience of hang gliding, skydiving, and swinging.

Despite the loss of one ride, a new attraction is set to make its debut at the park this summer.

Moosehorn Falls, a giant boomerang waterfall, is opening the park’s Splash Works area on May 25.

The ride will take up to six guests down a rushing river cascade of twists and turns before “being propelled to the summit of a zero-gravity, 13-metre wall (42 feet),” as described in a news release.

Along with the new addition to Splash Works, the park is constructing a new walkway underneath the Leviathan roller coaster for guests to enter the grounds, and renovating the Wonderland store, the restaurant Backlot Cafe and Wonder Mountain.

Canada’s Wonderland is set to open on May 3.
