The biggest swiping day of the year for online dating is coming up and Tinder has some tips for users looking to find their match.

The first Sunday of the year, which lands on Jan. 5 in 2025, has been coined Dating Sunday because of the surge of users using dating apps like Tinder, the online dating platform says.

The game-changing day for singles has a nearly 20 per cent higher swipe activity than the rest of the year, according to Tinder. In addition, the number of likes is 15 per cent higher than the rest of the year, and there’s over 10 per cent more matches and 20 per cent more messages sent compared to the rest of the year, Tinder says.

Why the surge? Tinder says a new year brings new possibilities along with new resolutions.

“Singles are manifesting their ideal connections and diving headfirst into their resolutions to meet new people, explore fresh experiences, and perhaps even find their perfect match,” Tinder said in a news release.

To make the most out of Dating Sunday and the app’s peak season (Jan. 1 to Feb. 14), Tinder is highlighting some tips for singles, including setting profile resolutions, messaging with intent, making it a team effort, and manifesting the love you want, among others.

Tinder emphasizes the importance of updating profiles with new goals and sharing something intriguing about yourself to stand out and spark meaningful conversation. When messaging a potential love interest, Tinder recommends starting conversations that show interest and originality, such as including a fun resolution and asking about their goals for the new year.

The app also suggests leaning on your friends to navigate the dating world. In fact, nearly 50 per cent of singles are planning to use their friends’ help to find love. Tinder even has a Matchmaker feature where friends can recommend profiles that caught their eye.
