Canadians are reacting after Canadian broadcasters Tracy Moore and Cheryl Hickey announced their lifestyle show will no longer be happening on Breakfast Television (BT).

The beloved TV journalists announced on Monday that their national hour-long lifestyle show “BT with Tracy and Cheryl,” which was supposed to air last fall, is not going into production.

Both Moore and Hickey took to Instagram on Monday to share the news.

“After careful consideration, Citytv has decided to not move forward with the development of the new national hour of BT that I was to be a part of, so I am no longer working at Rogers,” Hickey said in her post.

“It’s the end of 20 years of work at Citytv. I am elated. Full of gratitude. So proud,” Moore said in hers.

Hickey added that Citytv was in development for their new show but that “plans change.”

“The goal with our show was to create something to support people where they were at and be a landing page with various brands for joy and inspiration. I still believe in that goal and will continue to find a way to lean in this direction!”

Citytv confirmed to Now Toronto that it decided not to pursue the new show.

“We’re always assessing our television schedule to ensure we deliver programming that will build strong audiences, and we’ve decided not to move forward with the development of a new national hour of Breakfast Television,” a Citytv spokesperson said in an email statement on Tuesday.

“Tracy has been an invaluable contributor over her almost 20-year career with Citytv and we look forward to doing more work with her as an independent producer. Cheryl has earned a strong reputation as one of Canada’s leading television entertainment hosts, and we wish her continued success,” they added.

Since last summer, Moore and Hickey have been occasionally hosting segments on BT.

Both Moore and Hickey were set to host their lifestyle show after leaving their own respective shows in the past two years. Moore was the host of Cityline which was cancelled in April 2024, and Hickey was the co-host of Entertainment Tonight Canada which ended in October 2023.

Online, fans and fellow TV hosts are sharing mixed emotions of the legendary broadcasters’ show not happening.

“Tracy! What an incredible chapter! THANK YOU❤️Your representation mattered and it always will,” Toronto- St. Paul’s MPP Dr. Jill Andrews commented on Instagram.

“I cannot wait to see what this next chapter brings, joy and all good things! Because that is what you encompass and do!,” Former BT co-host Dina Pugliese commented on Moore’s post.

“As they say, when one door closes – another one is opening. Looking forward to seeing what both of you incredibly talented people are do next,” Cynthia Loyst, “The Social” Co-host, wrote on Hickey’s Instagram post.

“I’m sorry to hear this, Cheryl. You were always such a delight whenever I saw you and I’m sad we didn’t get a chance to work together. Can’t wait to see what you do next – because you will no doubt be amazing!,” Citytv Anchor Melanie Ng also wrote to Hickey.

As for what’s next for the broadcasters, Moore says she’s co-executive producing a special for Citytv this summer and Hickey said “to be continued.”
