What’s open and closed on Christmas Day in Toronto

With several statutory holidays taking place this week, some businesses and services will have altered hours over the holidays. 

From essential services to Italian grocers, here’s a breakdown of what will be open and closed in Toronto on Christmas and Boxing Day. 

Groceries and alcohol 

Most grocery stores will have reduced hours on Dec. 24, will be closed on Dec 25, and most will have reduced hours on Dec. 26. 

Some grocers will remain open on Christmas Day, including Eataly and all Rabba Fine Foods locations, which will be operating as normal at all locations.  

St. Lawrence Market will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, Christmas Eve will likely be a busy day at LCBO locations, as most stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed until Dec. 26. The LCBO store locator has detailed hours for each location. 

All Beer Stores are closed on Christmas, while more than 95 locations will be open on Boxing day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Tourism 

Tourist attractions, including the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, Casa Loma and the Toronto Zoo, will remain open every day over the holidays.

Canada’s Wonderland ‘WinterFest’ will shut down on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and will reopen at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26. 

The Union Station roller rink will also be closed from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day.

Museums will also  be closed in Toronto on Christmas and Boxing Day. 

 Government 

Government services, including Passport Services and Service Canada, will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.  

Banks and mail service 

Banks and Canada Post offices will both be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. 

Transit

Those planning to travel on GO Transit this week will have to plan their travel according to a Saturday schedule on both Dec 25. And Dec 26. 

Meanwhile, the TTC will operate on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25, and on a Holiday service schedule on Dec. 26. 

Community centres 

All community centres across the city will be open until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, before closing up until Dec. 27. 

Garbage and recycling

In Toronto, there will be no curbside residential waste collection on Christmas Day.

Shopping Malls 

Every shopping mall will be closed on Christmas Day, excluding Pacific Mall in Markham, which will be open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. 

Walk-in Clinics 

While most walk-in healthcare clinics will be open over the holidays, some may have reduced hours.
