Baby Bash

Baby Bash Tha Smokin’ Nephew (Universal) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

In the song Weed Hand, this Texas-based Latino rapper calls himself a modern-day Jimi Hendrix, but beyond a love of ganja and a guitar-based song or two, I don’t see it – when he raps over guitars, it’s more in the vein of Bubba Sparxxx’s similar experiments. BB raps in a mellow style over smooth, almost easy-listening beats with a smattering of Ginuwine-esque R&B choruses. The song titles are entertaining – Image Of Pimp, Don’t Disrespect My Mind – but 17 songs are a lot, especially when half aren’t that great, although it gets better as it goes along. The record’s best when BB delves into slowed-down Southern Three 6 Mafia shit on Oh Wow.
