Rating: NNN

Who would have thought that Ween would eventually become heroes to jam-rock-loving hippies everywhere? Perhaps the guy from Crossing Over. Actually, it was probably inevitable that a couple of rad, musically intuitive pranksters would inherit the stinky, jestering new-school Deadhead audience. They haven’t made any concessions to newcomers on Quebec, or to listeners in general, really. They just explore the Steely Dan/Dave Matthews pop rock weirdness they began cultivating on White Pepper while returning to their touchstones of chocolate, baby talk and psychedelia. There’s early promise in the Moistboyz-style shitkicker It’s Gonna Be A Long Night, which is good but no major stretch for them. Things get over the top in a Weenlike way with the jaunty Hey There Fancy Pants, and elaborate orchestral parts come into play as they should on a Ween album. But is it enough to facilitate world peace? Maybe not.
