TWO-MINUTE MIRACLES

Rating: NNNN

London producer extraordinaire Andy Magoffin gets in front of the mike again for this second volume of compact pop nuggets by his Two-Minute Miracles orchestra. Thirteen songs in less than 30 minutes doesn’t break down to exactly two minutes each, but it’s close. Like Neutral Milk Hotel, Magoffin works on the pocket symphony plan. He crams a massive range of ideas into each tiny song, keeping things loose and decidedly odd on ramshackle cuts like There’s Nothing Like The Glow Of A UFO, then casually dropping the minor power pop classic Name That Song. Smaller is definitely better here. Two-Minute Miracles play the Horseshoe Tuesday (July 31).
