The founder of local news and culture publication blogTO has been let go from the company after creating it 20 years ago.
In a LinkedIn post on Monday, Tim Shore shared that yesterday marked his last day at the digital media company, following the decision of its owner, ZoomerMedia, to “terminate his employment.” The reason for Shore’s termination is unknown.
“It was a great 20-year run and I’m proud of what we built together and especially appreciate the resilience of my former colleagues who continue to navigate what remains an extremely challenging environment for media companies in Canada,” he wrote.
Shore’s media colleagues reacted to the announcement by noting the decades-long legacy of the multimedia company that has constantly reinvented itself since its inauguration in 2004.
“Tim, it was an honour to work with you for almost three years and learn from you. What you built is truly incredible, and it was a privilege to be part of your team. Can’t wait to see what you do next, and wishing you the best. Thank you so much for everything,” blogTO reporter and editor Kimia Afshar Mehrabi wrote.
“You are a legend and what you built is legendary,” publisher Rachael Marathakis also commented.
“Wow. Thank you for your contribution to Canadian media. It was wonderful to have worked with you on some tech coverage in the early 2000-teens. All the best on your next adventure,” Centennial College Professor Carolyn Van added.
Now Toronto reached out to Shore and ZoomerMedia for a comment but have yet to receive a response.
BLOGTO’S HISTORY
Tim Shore founded blogTO in 2004. Since then, the media company has been a popular multimedia source of news, culture, and local tips to Toronto residents.
In 2022, Canadian multiplatform media company ZoomerMedia, led by CEO Moses Znaimer, acquired the company, promising to combine resources and deliver more digital-friendly content. Zoomer also owns local publications Daily Hive and Curiocity.
“Combining our digital experience and capabilities with the resources of ZoomerMedia will allow us to quickly expand in ways that would not have been possible otherwise. I particularly look forward to working with Moses and am confident his unparalleled industry experience and creative vision will help us grow and evolve in innovative and unexpected ways,” Shore said in a press release at the time of the acquisition.
