In recognition of International Beer Day, a new study has revealed which beers Canadians like best.

International beer day was established in 2007 and is celebrated across six continents and 60 countries on the first Friday of August every year.

Casino comparison site casinos.com wanted to find out which lagers Canadians liked best and conducted a study to analyze the top beer searches on Google in each province and territory.

Corona was the overall fan favourite in Canada, securing more top three spots in provinces across the nation than any other beer. Corona also had the highest volume of online searches nationwide, according to the study.

But Ontario claimed Steam Whistle as their number one overall, followed by Carling and Guinness.

Guinness and Budweiser also proved popular, placing highly in numerous provinces and territories, including Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Québec, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

Budweiser appears eight times in the top three, Guinness six and Heineken four. Meanwhile, Moosehead was a favourite for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

La Fin Du Monde appeared once as Quebec’s favorite beer. No other province named it in their top three. The same is true for Steam Whistle which was Ontario’s chosen beer.

Labatt and Molson Canadian both performed poorly, barely making the top three list for any province or territory.

Casinos.ca used Google Trends to measure the level of interest in 12 of the nation’s most popular beers. Wine, spirits, smaller brands of IPAs and lager were excluded due to a lack of available data. The study refers predominantly to beer and lager sold in stores.

The data was collected over a 12-month period from Aug. 2 2022 – Aug. 3 2023.
