Ontario reports 2,362 new COVID-19 cases and 26 deaths

11:25 am Ontario is reporting 2,362 new cases of COVID-19 and 26 deaths on May 14.

The province detected 2,759 new cases on Thursday, 2,320 on Wednesday and 2,073 on Tuesday. The provincial seven-day rolling average is down to 2,616, similar to levels around the beginning of April. The seven-day average a week ago was 3,266.

“Locally, there are 691 new cases in Toronto, 563 in Peel, 224 in York Region, 148 in Durham and 112 in Hamilton,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter.

Ontario completed 44,040 tests in the past 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 6.1 per cent compared with seven per cent last Friday, according to Ontario public health.

An additional 141,765 doses of the vaccine were administered over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 6,771,128 doses administered and 415,531 people fully vaccinated.

There are now 28,069 active cases across the province and 1,582 patients hospitalized due to the virus, down from yesterday’s count of 1,632 patients. There are also 777 patients in intensive care, the first time the province has seen an increase in ICU patients in two weeks. Of those patients, 560 are on ventilators.

Among the deaths reported today, three were people between the ages of 20 and 39 and seven were people between the ages of 40 and 59.

To date, the province has seen 504,533 total COVID-19 cases and 8,431 deaths.
