The quiet feud between Toronto’s biggest artists continues, after Drake requested to turn off a song by The Weeknd while on a Canadian gamer’s livestream.

The For All the Dogs rapper appeared on a recent stream with Quebec’s xQC. At some point, “Starboy” by The Weeknd begins to play, which prompts Drake to demand xQC to change the song.

“You have to switch this song,” he tells xQC and laughs.

“Real sixers… real six side, we don’t listen to that,” Drake added.

The “God’s Plan” rapper then opted for blink-182’s “Dammit” instead.

The Weeknd, who is from Scarborough, has had an on-and-off conflict with Drake for more than a decade. The pair’s relationship seemingly went awry sometime after Drake’s sophomore studio album, Take Care, which The Weeknd contributed to. Since then, both sides have been quietly firing shots at each other.

The duo seemed to have reconciled at the end of 2019, where in Drake’s “War,” he mentions their collaborative brand “OVOXO” and indicates that they are on good terms.

“Yeah, we just had to fix things, family, 6ix tings, we can’t split up,” Drake said in the song.

But brows raised once again earlier this year with the drop of Future and Metro Boomin’s joint project, We Still Don’t Trust You, an album series that saw quite a few of Drake’s rivals join forces, including The Weeknd who appeared on multiple songs. The collaborative album is also what kicked off Kendrick Lamar’s months-long unresolved feud with the Canadian rapper, following the release of “Like That.”

Fans of both Canadian artists are split, many upset that the two seem to be at odds once again. Some argue that Drake has every right to not want to listen to The Weeknd, while others say he wouldn’t be where he is without the “Blinding Lights” crooner.

“I mean The Weeknd been dissing Drake all year, why would he listen to his music,” an X user questioned.

“Not even wanting to hear The Weeknd is crazy when Take Care wouldn’t have been as good without him,” one user wrote on X.

“Those two have beefed and made up so many times tho, I tend to ignore it at this point,” another X user said. “Weeknd always gets mad, Drake sneak disses him, then they make up and Drake big ups Weeknd and the importance of Toronto unity.”
