There’s a fake Loblaw No Name ad that has popped up in downtown Calgary and its accuracy has got Canadians doing a double take.

On Monday, a user from the “Loblaws is out of control” Reddit group shared a photo of a fake No Name advertisement that appears to be posted on a transit stop shelter.

The poster says “peasants” in the No Name signature font and below it is a picture of a box of No Name cake mix with the title “let them eat cake,” a reference to Marie-Antoinette, the Queen of France during the French Revolution.

The advertisement looks convincingly like a real No Name ad and has Reddit users impressed in the comments.

“This is amazing. Whoever did this, I love you,” one user on Reddit said.

“Absolutely iconic,” another user said.

“Brilliant! I wonder what someone paid for this, I’d love to thank them,” another comment read.

“I really love the use of the big bold “peasants” at the top, because this design is so well done that at the first glance you would actually think it’s a legitimate Loblaws ad. Genius. Absolute genius. To the designer, whoever you are, you’ve got my appreciation for this piece,” another user commented.

In response to the fake ad, Loblaw told Now Toronto that it is “aware and investigating.”

The fake poster comes as the ongoing Loblaw boycott has spread overseas and has made international headlines. Specifically, the grocery giant was featured in a BBC article comparing the prices of common food items at British retail company Tesco, Walmart in the U.S and Loblaw.

Currently, the Loblaw boycott has no definite end date. Thousands of supporters continue to avoid Loblaw-owned stores in an effort to pressure the corporate retailer to lower its grocery costs by 15 per cent and remove member-only pricing policies.
