The Liberals have won a minority government, according to preliminary results, with Mark Carney remaining as prime minister.
This marks a fourth consecutive win for the Liberals and a stunning comeback for the party after support for it dropped in the polls before former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stepped down.
Carney has also won his Ottawa riding of Nepean.
Trudeau announced his resignation back in January leading to a Liberal leadership race that former Carney won in March.
Carney spent years working in public service which included leadership roles; he was previously the Governor of the Bank of Canada and led the Bank of England before becoming Liberal Party Leader.
The Conservative Party is set to become the official opposition, according to these early results.
Meanwhile, Jagmeet Singh did not win his B.C. riding of Burnaby South and failed to get the NDP party status, resulting in him announcing that he’s stepping down as party leader once an interim leader is chosen.
The results come as no surprise after several polls showed the Conservatives and Liberals neck-and-neck for weeks leading up to the election. With the Liberals only leading by just a few percentage points at times.
