A memorial was held over the weekend to remember a child, believed to be between the age of four and seven, who was found dead in a Toronto dumpster over a year ago.
Many community members gathered at a Toronto church on Saturday to honour the girl whose identity remains a mystery to this day, according to a Toronto police press release.
May 2 marked one year since her body was found in a construction bin located in a Rosedale neighbourhood.
The memorial was held at Rosedale Presbyterian Church and was described by police as an “opportunity to remember and honour the young girl, who remains unidentified.”
Attendees were seen wearing scarves that resembled the colours of the two blankets that were found wrapped around the girl’s body. One blanket was butterfly patterned and the other was burgundy and red,CP24 reported.
Many people have taken to social media to keep hope alive in finding out who the victim is, what exactly happened to her and why.
“Someone out there could give this baby her name back,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Still not identified?! this [poor] soul…this little girl deserves justice,” another user tweeted.
Toronto investigators said they are fully committed to “finding answers and identifying the little girl.”
