
After nearly two decades, the Moxies restaurant at Yorkdale Shopping Centre is closing its doors.
Open since February 2007 at one of Toronto’s busiest malls, Moxies served nearly two million customers in its longstanding run. Moxie’s last day will be Saturday, Jan. 17.
Sadly, Moxies isn’t the only restaurant in the city bidding farewell this year. A new study out of Dalhousie University’s Agri-Food Analytics Lab predicts over 4,000 restaurants could go out of business this year.

Cà Phê Rang
Last day: Jan. 24
A collaboration between Matty Matheson and his mentor Rang Nyugen, Vietnamese casual dining restaurant Cà Phê Rang will be closing its doors after four years in the heart of Downtown Toronto.
Lucky Lin’s (Finch location)
Last day: Jan. 13
Scarborough West Indian and Chinese fusion restaurant Lucky Lin’s was forced to close its Finch Avenue location after its landlord declined to renew the lease. Fret not, as it’s planning to re-open in mid-February near Kingston Road and Sheppard Avenue East.

Mandarin Restaurant (Yonge and Eglinton)

A beloved Toronto institution, the iconic Mandarin buffet location at Yonge and Eglinton will be saying goodbye as the area will undergo redevelopment. The Mandarin chain will continue to operate its other locations across Ontario.
Figo
Last day: Jan. 1
After 10 years as a mainstay in Toronto’s Italian food scene, Figo concepts abruptly shuttered its doors on New Year’s Day. The hospitality company behind Figo, Ink Entertainment, is slated to open a new concept restaurant this spring.
