A Nintendo Switch 2 Experience event is coming to Toronto this spring for video gamers to test out the highly anticipated console.

The gaming company released a sneak peek of the new console Thursday morning, and revealed it’s hosting a series of worldwide events called the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience.

This experience will be coming to Toronto from April 25-27 at Exhibition Place, where the public can have hands-on experience with the Switch 2 during the event.

The next-gen console is the successor of the beloved Nintendo Switch, which was released back in March 2017.

The unreleased console looks a lot like the original, but larger in size, with noticeably slimmer bezels. The Joy-Cons have also been enlarged, and are now magnetic. The hand-held hybrid is shown off in the two-minute video released Thursday, showing its functionality and a teaser for more to come on April 2, 2025.

The video also showed a new Mario Kart that will be available to purchase with the Switch 2. Nintendo said late last year that the new console is backward compatible and the video confirms that games from the Nintendo Switch can be used on Switch 2. However, some original Switch games will not work on the Switch 2.

Switch 2 has no official release date, but will be available sometime this year. Users online are sharing their first reactions.

“I love how clean the Switch 2 looks. A genuinely sleek looking device that would fit alongside modern phones and PCs with just a pop of color to give that Nintendo touch,” one X user said.

“Last time Nintendo had a 100-million-selling console, it followed it up with one that sold 14 million, so it’s noticeable that the Switch 2 trailer all but screams: This Is The Bigger/Better Evolution Of The Switch You Know (not a peripheral to skip),” another user commented.

“Exciting news! Can’t wait to see what the Nintendo Switch 2 has in store for us in 2025! #NintendoSwitch2,” another user said.

Make sure to keep an eye out for registration for the live event in Toronto available tomorrow, January 17 at 3 p.m. Attendees will be selected via a drawing, then those chosen will be notified.  A free Nintendo account is required to enter. You can find more information here
