‘Just a normal day in Toronto:’ Police arrest man for allegedly unleashing bear spray on people in Kensington Market

Toronto police arrested a man for allegedly unleashing bear spray on unsuspecting people in the Kensington Market area on Tuesday.

Authorities put out a public safety alert around noon after getting reports that a man was spraying the substance in and around a restaurant in the Nassau Street and Augusta Avenue area

Police shared that the spray was subsequently recovered and a 45-year-old man was taken into custody “without further incident.”

The investigation is still ongoing and officials did not release the name of the restaurant. 

It is unknown how many people were affected and if the man is facing any charges.

Some Torontonians took to Twitter and shared how confused they were by the incident, while others said they weren’t shocked in the slightest. 

“Just a normal day in Toronto, someone spraying bear spray in a restaurant,” one Twitter user wrote.

Others called on the city to do more to address the serious mental health crisis going on, claiming there are “afflicted individuals on the streets with no treatment.”
