During his one night in Toronto on Tuesday, Grammy-nominated singer and rapper Post Malone took a moment to remember a name recently lost in the music industry: Oliver Tree.
Post Malone paused between songs during his Rogers Stadium show to acknowledge Tree’s sudden passing that had just happened on Sunday.
With a beer in hand, Post began his dedication with how appreciated Tree was.
“[This concert is], for me, a celebration of the life of a beautiful, beautiful man,” Post addressed the crowd during his concert. “A gentleman I knew, was so beautiful, and inspired the world with his art, and just his heart and his soul.”
Post named Tree, telling the audience how the world lost him the “other day,” while holding back tears.
“I just want you to know dude, that we love you so very much,” Post said while addressing Tree directly. “We love you brother, we love you.”
After pouring some of his beer out, an action typically done with a beverage in memory of a deceased person or someone absent from the event, Post told the audience they were going to have a great night.
“We’re going to have a great night and celebrate this gentleman,” he concluded.
This was Post’s first tour show immediately following Tree’s death.
Who was Oliver Tree?
Thirty-two-year-old Oliver Tree was a well known singer and producer in the music industry, best known for his songs “When I’m Down,” “Alien Boy,” “Life Goes On,” and most notably “Miss You,” grossing almost 800 million views on Spotify.
The hip-hop, electronic and pop singer, most known for his absurdist humor in his art, was on his world tour when he passed.
The 2026 “The World’s First World Tour,” was meant to span all 7 continents, with more than 30 countries and 70 shows for Tree’s fourth album, Love You Madly, Hate You Badly.
The tour was ultimately cancelled after a helicopter Tree used for the tour crashed into another above an electric vehicle car lot in the south-end of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The crash led to the death of six people in total, including pilot Charles Marsillac alone in one helicopter, with pilot Alexandre Souza, Oliver Tree, Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim or Gaspi, Lucas Brito Chaves and Lucas Vignale in the other helicopter, according to People. There were no survivors.
Tree was set to play at Toronto’s venue HISTORY on Aug. 7.
