Thanksgiving is a holiday focused on giving back and giving thanks, and in honour of that message, multiple places in Toronto are giving away free food for residents to enjoy.
From turkeys to pies, there are a few chances this weekend where locals can grab a bite to eat for free, while supplies last.
Here’s where you can try to grab some free grub this Thanksgiving weekend.
Free turkey and sides at Downsview Park Merchants Market
For the seventh year in a row, the Downsview Park Merchants Market will be giving away 300 turkeys, along with potatoes and cranberry sauce, to attendees this Sunday, Oct. 11.

Free vegan turkey roasts from PETA
Ahead of Monday’s Thanksgiving festivities, PETA supporters will be dressed as vibrant autumnal maple leaves outside Loblaws on Sunday, where they will give away dozens of free vegan turkey roasts.
This is part of their drive for “ThanksVegan,” as they encourage Torontonians to celebrate Thanksgiving without meat.
The supporters will begin to give out the roasts around 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Church and Carlton, while supplies last.
Free pumpkin pie with a minimum purchase by Costco
From Oct. 8 to 12, Costco members are able to receive a free Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie on DoorDash while supplies last.
Members simply have to find Costco on the DoorDash app and enter their Costco membership ID. They then have to add a Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie to their Costco order on DoorDash, along with a standard $50 minimum of items, before checking out.
The pie should then be marked out for members’ enjoyment.
Free meal courtesy of Good Shepherd
For those in need, volunteers at Good Shepherd Ministries are holding a massive Thanksgiving feast for people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and/or isolation.
The annual Thanksgiving lunch will be held on Monday, October 12 at 412 Queen St E, with a sit-down turkey dinner.
The organization hopes to feed over 1,000 people during this year’s holiday, with dozens of volunteers helping prepare the meal.
The event runs from 12 to 2:30 p.m., while supplies last.
