What to know
- TIFF Day 5 brings plenty of star power, with Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Helen Mirren, Lily James, Darlene Love, and others expected at major Monday premieres and red carpets across downtown Toronto.

Darlene Love: I Know Where I’ve Been

This documentary has the woman herself sharing her story and success. Darlene Love talks about her early days singing in a church choir in Los Angeles, to her current life in her eighties, recounting a lifetime of hits, heartbreak, and resilience.

A Talent for Murder

Time: 1:30 p.m.
A Talent for Murder is the film adaptation of the popular play Switzerland. The story follows an author in her seventies who travels to the Swiss Alps while in poor health. A publicist follows her to try and persuade her to write just one more book in her series, leading to the pair trying to plan out the perfect murder.

Gentle Monster
Location: Royal Alexandra Theatre
Time: 5 p.m.
A family is disturbed after a sex crimes unit arrives to confiscate the family’s digital devices and to arrest the husband and father. A case against him unfolds and becomes difficult to deny, but the story intensifies when the wife looks to her son and the terrifying possibility that he might be involved.

A season background actress befriends a celebrity in this French film, with the hope of breaking into cinema as a more prominent actor. Will friendship give the determined actor the tools necessary to achieve her dreams?

Possible Love

This drama follows two couples who live very different lives, both generationally and economically. The couples meet following a massive labour dispute in South Korea, when one of the filmmaking couple approaches the other to film a documentary.

Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo

A hardened, gambling-addicted Tokyo Metropolitan police officer finds himself being investigated by the FBI after a politician’s daughter goes missing. The bad lieutenant and the FBI agent collaborate to find the missing woman while unknowingly being monitored by a crazed killer.

Bunker

One happy couple in a 17-year relationship sees cracks form after a mysterious billionaire asks partner Miguel to design a luxury bunker, where a tiny cluster of the ultra-wealthy can take shelter in an apocalypse. This project is one Sofia, his partner, finds promotes gross inequality that could destroy the world.

Look Back
Location: Princess of Wales

This film, shot entirely on 33 mm, follows the story of two friends who met as artists for the school paper in their youth. Soon, one of the girls discovers the other has been idolizing her from afar all along. A lifelong friendship follows them as aspiring manga artists in their adulthood, where the joys of artistic expression collide with the unpredictability of life.
