Couples hoping to say “I do” at Toronto City Hall in 2027 will have to make other plans. The city has ended on-site weddings and replaced them with off-site ceremonies, leaving many lovebirds disappointed. Here’s what’s changing and what couples need to know.

On Monday, Toronto City Hall took to Instagram to announce that the Ministerial Associates will vacate the City Hall premises on Jan. 1, 2027, halting weddings planned for that date and beyond.

“The City did not wish to renew our lease, after 32 years, and various renovations to the building are planned for 2027. There were several untenable factors why we could not accept the short 3-month extension,” the caption reads in part.

The post adds that the City has not yet disclosed their future plans.

The Ministerial Associates have been open since 1994 and have helped couples join in union and celebrate their love for over 30 years.

Now, couples must schedule a date before the venue closes, or find a new venue.

“No one asked the city for this. It did not go out to council for a vote or a review. The city is taking an aggressive approach to being in the Wedding sector affects all of us who have filled this space for couples,” one Instagram user commented.

“This is so sad! I’m glad I was able to get married this past spring. Everyone there was so lovely,” another user wrote.
