What to know

  • Ferguson met his girlfriend, Millie Cutler, at the Little People of America convention.
  • Their relationship began with travel adventures, including a first date in Lisbon, Portugal.
  • Despite living continents apart, they rely on daily calls and trust to keep the long-distance romance strong.
  • This is Ferguson’s first relationship, and he says he wouldn’t want to date again if it didn’t work out.

Canadian reality TV star John L. Ferguson is no stranger to hookups, but when it comes to real relationships, he’d never found one in the little community or with average-sized people — until now. After years of being single and ready to mingle, he’s finally off the market and opening up about his first-ever relationship to Now Toronto.

John L. Ferguson is a content creator turned reality TV star from Erin, Ontario. He’s on The Amazing Race Canada season 10, and on the currently-airing TLC show, Little Singles.

How did they meet?

John Ferguson might have been on Little Singles, where some of his friends have been hooking up and exploring potential relationships, but Ferguson stayed out of the dating drama, as he’d already found ‘the one’ before filming.

Ferguson told Now Toronto that he met girlfriend Millie Cutler at the annual Little People of America (LPA) convention.

“I realized every man was kind of hitting on her, and I was in a phase where I wasn’t really flirting just because I was over it. I was shooting my shot over and over and it wouldn’t work. I went two years without flirting with anyone,” he explained.

But choosing not to approach her was the best thing he could’ve done, Ferguson explained.

“I guess that’s what she liked. So two weeks later, once I was home in Toronto, I was like, ‘Hey, do you want to fly around Europe?’ She said yes,” he shared.

The pair didn’t just fly across the country, but travelled into each other’s hearts.

Despite living in different countries, and even being continents apart, Ferguson in Canada and Cutler in England, the pair decided to get into a relationship together.

What was their first date?

The pair had their first date in Lisbon, Portugal – a couple of drinks along Pink Street. Ferguson joked that because of her height of 3′4″, all it takes is one tequila shot and she’s drunk.

Before they both knew it, they were both a little more than tipsy and sealed the night out with a kiss.

But prior to that first date, they were travelling around as friends for a couple of weeks.

How are they making long-distance work?

Communication and trust are the two major must-haves in a long-distance relationship, according to Ferguson.

“We call each other every morning. Obviously, it’s hard because she’s over in England, so she’s five hours ahead, but just constant communication, and also trust,” he said.

“Obviously, I want her to go have a blast. She’s 23, hanging out with friends, clubbing it up. And then she also gives me the freedom of just hanging out with whoever I want,” Ferguson added.

How long have they been together by now?

The pair has been “hanging out” for over a year and a half now, but made it official about a year ago.

“We were together exclusively, but I never had a relationship in my whole life, so I didn’t really know how to ask,” Ferguson said.

“I would always be like, ‘Oh, this is my friend.’ She hated that, I found out afterwards,” he joked.

So after six months of being together, Ferguson asked her to be his girlfriend in front of an elephant at the San Diego Zoo.

What makes Cutler ‘the one’ for Ferguson?

Ferguson’s only been in one relationship (with his current partner, Cutler), but he already knows he would never want to find someone else, going as far as saying he’d never date again if it didn’t work out with Cutler.

“I would just end up alone the rest of my life. I think she’s the greatest person I could end up with. Even if she falls off the face of the earth, there isn’t anyone I would rather be with,” he said.

“I’m also lazy in the love area where I’m gonna have to do small talk, romance, first date, second date, in-laws… I don’t want that again. It’s happened. Let’s not do that again,” Ferguson said.
