The Toronto Public Library (TPL) is still investigating after its website was victim to a cybersecurity breach over the weekend.
The library first reported about the breach on Saturday, saying it “was experiencing technical difficulties with some online services.”
“As a result of the incident, the following services are unavailable: tpl.ca, “your account”, tpl:map passes and digital collections. Public computers and printing services at our branches are also unavailable,” TPL said in a statement.
TPL says there is currently no evidence that personal information of staff or customers has been compromised.
The library says it “promptly initiated measures to mitigate potential impacts.”
“We have engaged with third-party cybersecurity experts to help us in resolving this situation. We do anticipate though that it may take several days before all systems are fully restored to normal operations,” TPL said.
Branches are open as scheduled but in-branch wifi and printing services are currently unavailable.
As a result of the breach, a planned TPL Board meeting for Monday evening at 6 p.m. will be in person only at the Toronto Reference Library, where the public is permitted to attend. There will be no virtual link to join this meeting.
TPL says it will update its website as more information becomes available.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding while we do everything we can to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.”
