In celebration of Pride month, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has introduced new chimes on subway trains to replace its regular alert tone for passengers.

Throughout June, riders will hear three-tone announcement chimes gracefully sung by Toronto’s largest 2SLGBTQQIA+ community choir Singing Out

The TTC says the sounds of Pride will be played before all station and platform announcements and a special Pride jingle sung by the choir will also greet customers throughout the day.

Singing Out defines itself as a mixed-voice, non-auditioned choir that is a community with a mission of pride, music, and belonging. Since its inception in 1992, the group has welcomed everyone who enjoys singing and learning to its warm and judgment-free space.

The choir also invites different levels of experience, as well as diverse backgrounds and identities. It says there are no auditions needed to join and candidates don’t need to be able to read sheet music.

“At Singing Out we sing together, we sing as one, and we sing with pride,” the group said on its website.

During the Pride Toronto festival weekend from June 23 to 25, the TTC will have its own colourful eBUS in the Trans and Dyke marches and the Pride parade.
