As NOW launched the first North By Northeast music festival, we interviewed Sarah Harmer, lead singer and songwriter for roots-raunchers Weeping Tile, one of the highlight bands.
Seventeen years later, Harmer is one of Canada’s premier performers – with a cool activist resumé – and NXNE has blown up, too. In 1995, over 300 bands were on the roster. This year the festival has film, comedy and an interactive component, and more than 700 bands are playing all over town.
