Toronto’s iconic Distillery District has once again been transformed, this time into a free country festival featuring delicious southern-style eats, music, family entertainment, and more!
Picks and Bricks is on until Sept. 2 and guests can enjoy an array of activities which include a roping cattle contest, a mechanical bull, and the chance to dig into a delightful meal at an old-timey saloon.
The festival is great for all ages to take a seat, dig in, and listen to the rhythm of classic country music as you soak up the sun this summer!
“We really brought that country feel with hay bales and sunflowers to the city and it’s a really nice juxtaposition against the bricks of the distillery,” Marketing Manager for The Distillery District, Meagan Clark told Now Toronto.
There are also plenty of kid-friendly activities including photo opportunities with country-themed props (such as wanted signs and a giant pair of cowboy boots), hay bale benches to sit and watch live music on, Jenga, a horseshoe toss and a weekly doggy dress up contest.
On Wednesdays, starting at 7:00 p.m., adults can indulge in a glass or two of whiskey at weekly tastings and seminars on the Trinity Stage.
On Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., guests can put their country skills to the test and take a free ride on the mechanical bull.
On Fridays, visitors are invited to partake in classic line dancing lessons, which Clark describes as “a huge hit.”
“Young and old, everybody really enjoys learning some new steps,” she said.
Live music acts take the Picks and Bricks stage every day of the festival, including special guest tribute act Shania Twin on Sunday Aug. 18, who will perform hits by the great Canadian country artist Shania Twain.
“She’s fabulous, she’s been around for a really long time and does a great job,” Clark said about the tribute act.
Other acts include The Jamie Oliver Trio, known for their smooth renditions of classic country tunes and original songs, along with Colonel Tom Parker & the American Pour, The Odd Country, and many more.
Guests will also have endless choices when it comes to food!
District Pizza is serving a brisket pizza, but if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, head to the festival food truck for a selection of country-themed fare, including mac n’ cheese bites, chilli and Fritos, pulled pork tacos, and smokehouse fries, to name a few.
The festival is free to attend and runs until Sept. 2 at The Distillery District.
