A classic Toronto Jamaican restaurant known as a community favourite in the city is officially closing its doors next week after 23 years of service.
Pat’s Homestyle located at 558 Queen St. West announced it is permanently closing on Sept. 23rd because its owner Patrick Bertram is retiring.
“This city and our customers have supported us day in and out as a small Jamaican restaurant to what we are today. We would not be where we are today without the support and love from each and every one of you. Your loyalty is unmatched,” the restaurant’s Instagram post read.
The popular Jamaican restaurant is known for its iconic jerk chicken, traditional patties and mouth watering oxtail amongst its regular customers.
The local joint is recognized as a comfort spot for many, as it stays true to its authentic, Caribbean flavours and is reasonably priced, according to its customers.
“My favorite Jamaican spot in Toronto just announced that they’re closing and I am so sad about it. If you’ve never been to Pat’s Homestyle Jamaican at Queen and Bathurst, you are missing out. I think it’s also my most frequented takeout spot in Toronto. I used to live down the street and we would get dinner there at least once a week,” Toronto TikTok user @connie.mp4 said in a video posted on Thursday.

Following the announcement, Pat’s Homestyle supporters have flooded the comments to share their memorable experiences and to offer words of gratitude.
“I remember stopping by for lunch almost weekly since I was in the area for school. Once I graduated, it had been over a year since I stopped by and Pat immediately recognized me and yelled “where have you been girl!” I’ve always been greeted with a warm smile and welcome from Pat. It’s so bittersweet seeing you close, but thank you for the wonderful food & always putting a smile on my face. Enjoy your retirement,” one Instagram user wrote.
“The way my heart breaks but I’m happy Pat gets to slow down. Y’all are my favourite Jamaican spot in the city and this void will be felt. I’ve been eating here since 2014 and the food has always been good, no off days! Thanks for all of the great food memories and good times of laughter with your staff. Nuff love,” another user said.
Over the next two weeks, the restaurant says it is looking forward to serving as many new and familiar faces as possible.
“Come through to grab jerk, patties or oxtail, and give Pat the goodbye he deserves,” it said.
Torontonians can visit Pat’s Homestyle from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., Tuesday to Saturday, until its final day on September 23rd.
