Events happening in Toronto this weekend: April 28-30

We’re nearing the end of April and what better way to cap off the month by attending an exciting new lineup of events happening this weekend. Here’s what you can check out: 

Friday, April 28:

Architects of Hip Hop 

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is hosting an event called the architects of hip hop in honour of the 50th anniversary for hip hop. The Withrow Common Galley at the CNE will feature the contemporary fine art photography of the internationally awarded and critically acclaimed Artist Sheinina Lolita Raj.

Afro Karaoke Toronto

Dance and sing along to African and Caribbean tunes at Afro Karaoke at Adelaide Hall. This event celebrates African and Caribbean culture through music, dance and community. Singers, performers and anyone interested are all welcome.

Immigrants With Attitude 

This is a comedy show about experiencing life as an immigrant in Canada. Comics from all over the world will gather to speak and joke about their immigrant experiences. The show features a stellar line up of some of the best comedians in the city such as Vishal Ramesh, Sunny Deewana, among others.

Saturday, April 29:

The Girl Who Swallowed a Cactus

The Girl Who Swallowed a Cactus is a production that follows eight year old Sheila and her group of friends who stumble upon a junk yard fort with a magical object that lures a clever coyote. Suddenly, they find themselves transported to a scorched desert where they face a series of challenges. The gang ultimately learns about the human impact on the environment and the animals we share the planet with, through this adventure.

The Second City’s Improv Brunch

The Local Loop Market

The market prioritizes sustainability and “closing the loop” in all products it offers. Their event takes place in the Parkdale neighbourhood from 11am to 6p.m.

TYWO/OBA Elementary Honour Band

Brought to you by the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra (TYWO) and the Ontario Band Association (OBA), the inaugural Elementary Honour Band brings together 45 young musicians from grades 7 and 8, nominated by their music teachers, for a special weekend of rehearsals and workshops. This all leads up to a performance on the stage of the George Weston Recital Hall.
