With several festivals lined up for the weekend, Toronto Police Service says it’s planning appropriate measures to keep residents safe following the violence at Salsa on St. Clair.
From July 24-26, Toronto’s expecting several festivals, including the Panamerican Food & Music Festival, the Beaches Jazz Festival, and Ossfest.
In recent weeks, several Toronto festivals have been faced with crime.. There were reportedly some robberies at Do West Fest, the Taste of Little Italy, and most recently, two deaths and multiple injured individuals at Salsa on St. Clair.
So, Now Toronto asked Toronto police how they’re preparing to keep residents safe while they enjoy this weekend’s festivities.

The Toronto Police Service told Now Toronto that it’s working closely with event organizers and City partners ahead of festivals and major events in order to plan appropriately and ensure the right resources are in place.
Torontonians can expect to see a visible police presence throughout the weekend.
“We understand that many people are still thinking about the violence at Salsa on St. Clair and that incidents like that can affect people’s sense of safety. Those concerns are understandable,” a spokesperson wrote. “At the same time, Toronto hosts festivals and community events throughout the summer, and the overwhelming majority take place safely and without incident.”
Toronto police are encouraging people to “come out, support local businesses, enjoy these events,” reminding them that police members will be there to help keep people safe.
For those worried about being robbed after the Do West Fest and Taste of Little Italy local experiences, Toronto Police recommend staying aware of your surroundings in crowded spaces and keeping belongings close to your body and always zipped up.
