
It’s the week of Christmas, and while many people already have schedules filled with plans and activities, there are plenty of other events going on in the city if you need a break from all the festivities.
From checking out some of Toronto’s favourite teams to dancing your heart out, here are some ways to enjoy yourself in the Six this weekend.
Friday, December 26
OHL Boxing Day Classic
The city’s OHL team, the Toronto Marlies, will hit the ice on Friday for the OHL Boxing Day Classic, taking on the Belleville Senators.
Tickets start at $30, making it a super economical outing compared to some other sporting events in the city. Puck drops at 2 p.m.
Dinner and Drag
Head to O’Grady’s for a night of fabulous performances and delicious food at Jordana Myles’ Dinner and Drag party.
The show is the self-proclaimed longest-running and most epic Dinner and Drag Show in Canada, with 10 years in the game. Hosted by Queen Jordana Myles, the menu features charcuterie boards, salmon, mac and cheese squares and plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and halal options. Plus, satisfy your sweet tooth with O’Grady’s extensive list of decadent desserts.
The show runs from 7-10 p.m. and tickets are just $6.66. Get ready for plenty of crowd work, sing-alongs, and… Conga lines?
Lee’s Palace Boxing Day Bash
Get your groove on at Lee’s Palace’s annual Boxing Day Bash. Hosted by Nikita Dani, doors open at 8 p.m. and the party runs until 1:30 a.m.
Tickets are $23, and partygoers can enjoy performances from Neel Dani and Lattitude. Meanwhile, the afterparty will include DJ Ishaan Jolly. Head’s up, this is a big people party: the event is 19+.
Saturday, December 27
Silent Coffee Disco
Daytime dance party, anyone? Soul Phone’s Silent Coffee Disco is back, with doors opening at 9:45 a.m, on Saturday, and the event runs from 10-1 p.m., giving attendees three hours to dance their hearts out during a silent party.
So, grab your best dancing shoes, grab a cup of joe, don your headphones and get ready to groove, in silence.
The party is 19+, with tickets running at $27.
ABBA Tribute Concert
Enjoy an intimate candlelit dinner with covers of ABBA songs during a live, multi-sensory musical experience at Toronto Marriott Markham.
Performed by a string quartet with two violins, a viola and a cello, attendees can look forward to classics like “Dancing Queen,” “SOS,” “Money, Money, Money,”“Voulez-Vous,” “Waterloo,” “Super Trouper,” and “Mamma Mia.”
The concert opens Dec. 27 and runs for 60 minutes. Tickets start at $38, and doors open 45 minutes before the show. The concert is recommended for those eight and older, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday, December 28
Raptors V. Golden State Warriors
See the Raps take on California’s Golden State Warriors at Scotiabank Arena.
Tip off is early, with the game starting at 3:30 p.m., and tickets start at $176. This is one of the last chances to see the team play this year, so if you’ve been wanting to check out a game, now’s the time!
‘Twas On A Night Like This
Catch the closing matinee of ‘Twas On A Night Like This at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.
This breathtaking all-ages show sees musicians performing songs from huge artists like Joni Mitchell, Julie Andrews, Simon and Garfunkel, and Stevie Wonder, creating a performance filled with songs, stories, and stunning visuals which will introduce you to some non-traditional songs that embody not just the spirit, but the SOUL of the season.
The show begins at 2 p.m. and tickets start at $55.
A Desi Comedy Show
Get ready for a good belly laugh at A Desi Comedy Show at Comedy Bar Bloor while some of the funniest Desi comics in the GTA poke fun at everything from their experiences as immigrants to their forever disappointed parents.
Curated by Laal Button and billed as the best Hindi/Punjabi show in town, the lineup features Aditya Choudhary, Sunny Diwana, Saumya Pahwa, Muhammad Abdullah, and Tarun Kumar.
Tickets are $15 online and $18 at the door. The venue features a full bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as snacks. The bar and lounge open pre-show.
