Hannah Gadsby is coming back to Toronto in 2022

Hannah Gadsby is returning to Toronto next summer as part of a North American stand-up tour.

The Australian comedian broke out in 2018 with the Netflix special Nanette, which rocketed her to global headliner status.

Her Toronto live debut took place nearly two years after that in late February 2020, making it one of the last major comedy events before the city went into pandemic lockdown a few weeks later.

While Nanette, and its follow-up Douglas, saw Gadsby taking on serious subjects like mental health, art history, feminism and her experiences as a lesbian and gender-nonconforming performer, the marketing material for Body Of Work promises a “feel-good show.”

“The year that was like no other saw Hannah bunkering down in her homeland, Australia, sheltering from a global pandemic and pondering what was next,” reads a press release. “That ponder is now a show. A brand new live show. One could say it’s a new body of work. Couldn’t one?”

Gadsby will bring Body Of Work to Massey Hall on July 9, 2022. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 19 at 10 am via Ticketmaster.

In October, Gadsby made headlines when she slammed Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos for name-checking her in a company memo defending Dave Chappelle’s most recent comedy special, which critics have called transphobic.

Sarandos cited Gadsby as an example of Netflix’s diverse content. In response, she told the platform’s head honcho not to “drag my name into your mess” and that Chappelle’s fans have sent her hate and abuse.

“You didn’t pay me nearly enough to deal with the real world consequences of the hate speech dog whistling you refuse to acknowledge, Ted,” she wrote on Instagram. “Fuck you and your amoral algorithm cult… I do shits with more back bone than you. That’s just a joke! I definitely didn’t cross a line because you just told the world there isn’t one.”

Gadsby will debut Body Of Work on stage in Australia this year before embarking on a North American tour in April. See her tour announcement below.
