Fall in love with your favourite ogre all over again because Shrek the Musical is going on tour and it’s coming to Toronto this summer.
Based on the 2001 DreamWorks animated film, Shrek the Musical will take fans back to the swamp and the vibrant characters that started it all, from grumpy Shrek, his wisecracking sidekick donkey and feisty Princess Fiona who resists her rescue.
The new, reimagined production is by Tony Award-winning duo Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire and it promises to deliver an intimate and engaging experience.
“It’s been such a gift to get to revisit the show after all these years and rethink some of the choices and reimagine the piece as a whole. This all-new production is leaner and more focused. It’s joyful and funny and feels beautifully hand-crafted in a way that really brings out the things we first fell in love with – the heart and wonder and humor of the story,” Lindsay-Abaire said in a press release.
The play also includes original direction and choreography by Danny Mefford known for his work on Dear Evan Hansen.
The stellar cast features Nicholas Hambruch as Shrek, Cecily Dionne Davis as Fiona, Naphtali Yaakov Curry as Donkey, and Timmy Lewis as Lord Farquaad.
Shrek the Musical will take place at the Princess of Wales Theatre from August 6 to 18. The show is available from Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30 p.m, Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. on mirvish.com.
