It’s the end of an era for Canadian punk group Sum 41, who hit the stage one last time in Toronto this week after nearly 30 years of performing.

On Jan. 30, Sum 41 will play their last ever show in Toronto as part of their farewell tour, Tour of the Setting Sum—and many fans are sad it’s the end of an era.

“So sad to see you breakup; but, also excited for the next chapter,” one fan wrote on Instagram. “Thank you, Sum 41.”

The Ajax, ON group, which came together 41 days into the summer of 1996—and inspired the band name— is led by Deryck Jason Whibley, the lead vocalist and band founder, and includes members Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker, and Frank Zummo.

Whibley, 44, was formerly married to fellow Canadian pop-punk artist, Avril Lavigne, and has been open about his past substance abuse.

In celebration of the band’s farewell tour, Ajax has renamed a street in Sum 41’s honour.

And as the final show in Toronto nears, fans are sharing farewell messages for the band and what their music has meant to them.

“Pretty pretty pretty please do at least 1 last aussie show. Legit cried I couldnt see you guys knowing its the final tour,” one fan wrote on Instagram.

“My first Sum 41 show will be their last. Almost poetic,” another said.

Meanwhile, someone else said being at their show was “healing.”

“Was in Ottawa last night, LITERALLY THE SICKEST SHOW IVE EVER SEEN,” they said. “Teenage Michelle healed a little last night. Thank you.”

Sum 41 is scheduled to play their last Toronto shows at Scotiabank Arena at 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 30.
