Mother’s Day 2021: Toronto restaurants doing brunch and dinner specials

Ufficio's Mother's Day 2021 spread

Celebrating Mother’s Day 2021 with special brunch or dinner reservations is not an option thanks to the stay-at-home order. Fortunately, many Toronto restaurants have the holiday takeout and delivery special thing down – whether you are bubbling with mom or having a meal delivered. Here are 10 Toronto restaurants that will bring brunch and dinner to you.

Free Times Cafe

The 39-year-old College Street institution serving up homemade Jewish, Middle Eastern and Canadian food will satisfy mom’s latke cravings. The Mother’s Day brunch special includes one blintze, two latkes, challah French toast, smoked salmon and more for just under $40. There’s also a dinner special. Both are available for pick-up or delivery (at extra cost). Visit the Free Times website for full details and delivery zone info.

The Food Dudes

If fine dining is a Mother’s Day tradition in your family, the Food Dudes are doing a “badass brunch box” that comes with French toast sticks, hot smoked trout, spring frittatas, croissants, strawberry tarts, peach bellinis and more ($220). The “dinner experience” ups the ante with chilled lobster, chimichurri filet of beef, roasted black cod with sake miso sauce, strawberry rhubarb sphere ($240 or $420). The boxes serve two to four people and pre-orders are available until May 5 for delivery on May 7-9.

Hong Shing

Chinatown staple Hong Shing is doing a five-course special. The menu is Cantonese Typhoon Shelter-style, a seafood-heavy cuisine that dates back to 1950s when fishers converted boats into shelters/restaurants during typhoon season in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay area. Spicy lobster headlines this Mother’s Day 2021 meal, followed by garlic tenderloin beef, mushroom fried rice, vegetables, strawberry shortcake and more ($100, serves two). Pre-order for May 9 here.

Kanto by Tita Flips

The Filipino street food spot is doing brunch kits for pick-up on May 8-9. Give mom (and the rest of your family) the gift of six homemade longanisa sausages, pandesal (milk buns), beef rib-eye slices, sweet bacon, crispy danggit, and more (serves two to six people, $50). Kanto is also doing a dinner special (serves two to four, $55) on May 9 that includes a cocido/pochero spread. Pre-order here or hit up the restaurant’s DMs on Instagram.

Labora

The King West Spanish restaurant is doing a Mother’s Day paella for pick-up on May 9 ($78.50-$122). You can choose from lobster, chicken, truffle and white asparagus or beef short rib paella. Salads, homemade bread and tiramisu round out the package. Veg and vegan options are also available. Pre-order here.

Lapinou

One of our favourite brunch spots, French bistro Lapinou is doing a prix-fixe meal, drink kits and hand-tied bouquets for mom’s special day. The brunch options (serves two, $80) include Fogo crab and ramp quiche, croque madame, duck confit and French toast. For dinner (serves two, $130), choose from malfatti, flatiron steak, chicken or salmon. Chocolate tart is the dessert. Order here.

Marben

Farm-to-table restaurant Marben’s brunch kit (serves two, $74) comes with shoyu pancakes, brioche, eggs, “fancy baked beans,” whisky marmalade and a few sausage/bacon options. If you’re looking for something smaller-scale, try the petit fours ($12).

The Oxley

Missing the pub this Mother’s Day (or any day)? Yorkville gastro pub the Oxley is doing a ready-to-reheat three-course dinner ($48) on May 8 and 9. Your options include a full-on Sunday roast, Ontario rainbow trout, pea soup and sticky toffee pudding. All dishes come with reheating instructions. Order here.

Rodney’s Oyster House

Rodney’s is doing ready-made and create-your-own seafood brunch baskets this year – the first time the restaurant has ever done a brunch. Impress mom and shuck your own oysters and choose from prawn consommé, a lobster club sandwich, lobster huevos rancheros, oyster fritters, a lobster roll kit and more. A whole lime pie is among the dessert offerings. Pick-up and delivery is for May 8 and 9 between 10 am to 1 pm. Order here.

Ufficio

The pescatarian and plant-based comfort food spot is doing a salmon and vegetarian/vegan lasagna ($100/$80) for Mother’s Day. The lasagna is layered with fava beans, green peas, béchamel and mozzarella while the salmon meal comes with buttered escarole, navy beans and crème fraîche. Pick-up is May 8 from 4-8 pm and May 9 from noon to 8 pm. Order here.
