DoorDash is dismissing claims made in a viral video that alleges some of its customers are editing photos of their orders to obtain fraudulent refunds.
TikToker Brandon Conner posted a video on Wednesday explaining the alleged customer tactic.
According to Conner, customers supposedly edit a photo of a perfectly edible meal delivered via the app to make it appear inedible, then send it to DoorDash customer support asking for their money back.
The TikTok explaining the apparent scam has garnered almost 2.5 million views as of publication, despite the claims being unsubstantiated.
In the video, Conner claims the alleged refund scheme could lead to restaurants receiving unfairly negative reviews and being removed from the delivery app.
Now Toronto reached out to DoorDash who dismissed claims that the refund scam exists, but reiterated that restaurants are protected in the event of an inaccurate request.
“Restaurants are never charged for errors that are out of their control…if customers inaccurately request refunds, restaurant partners on DoorDash are able to dispute error charges in most scenarios,” a company spokesperson said in an email statement.
“DoorDash aims to be equitable and fair with merchants, customers, and Dashers in the instance an order-related error arises.” the spokesperson concluded.
