Over The Rainbow celebrates 40 years with jeans your mom will hate

Surely my mom isn’t the only mother with an intense, almost irrational aversion to distressed denim. Any time we walk by an unsuspecting pair, hanging innocently from a store rack, she can’t help but marvel at the fact anyone would be caught dead in ripped jeans. Even worse, in her mind, is the idea that someone would actually pay for the privilege of torn denim rather than just simply ripping their jeans to shreds themselves, DIY style.

I beg to differ. An artfully pre-distressed jean can bring great joy to a wardrobe– and I’m sure as hell not taking scissors to a pricey pair all on my own.

Luckily, Toronto indie mainstay Over The Rainbow agrees and offers up the perfect spring jean to celebrate their 40th birthday (no small feat in a city where boutiques seem shutter every week). The style is a collaboration with Fidelity Denim, a Canadian company that manufactures their jeans ethically in L.A.

The limited-edition Fidelity + OTR Mila jean comes in either white or light blue and is oh-so-soft. The mid-rise cut hugs your hips just enough to flatter, but not so much as to cause any unwanted skin spillover. The custom rainbow embroidered pocket stitch discreetly pays tribute to Over The Rainbow.

The collab is an extremely small run and is projected to sell out before month’s end. So if you want a pair, get your butt up to Yorkville fast. Just don’t tell your mom I told you to.
