English sisters Hannah and Colette Thurlow have come up with an appealing distillation of moody atmospheric 90s guitar rock sounds, and while they’re a relatively new band, they come across as confident and composed on stage.
There’s no shortage of new shoegazer-influenced bands playing NXNE shows this year, but this one relies less on reverb-drenched walls of sound and keep their songs comparatively tightly arranged and concise. On the other hand, they might be a little too conservative in that regard: after only a few songs, you start wishing they’d take a few more chances with both the songwriting and sonics. A less-stiff and wooden rhythm section would also make them a lot more fun to see live too. Still, you can see why they’re getting lots of buzz.
