The Sleepy Jackson

The Sleepy Jackson Lovers (Astralwerks) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

Not content to be hailed as the next Ben Lee, chronically lovesick Aussie wunderkind Luke Steele has much grander, Sean O’Hagan-sized musical aspirations. He weathered the breakups of his band and relationships and used his unabashedly Beatles-informed songcraft to turn his heartache into an arresting album of classic-sounding pop tunes stuffed silly with catchy choruses, hummable melodies and child choirs. The Sleepy Jackson’s Lovers is being hailed as one of the year’s most impressive debuts, for good reason.

Sleepy Jackson join My Morning Jacket at Lee’s Palace Friday (September 12).
