Hollerado go viral

Manotick, Ontario’s Hollerado are having a very good week. First, they picked up a CASBY Award last Thursday, and played a kick ass set at the award show. Maybe not as great as the $250 000 prize they picked up from an Ottawa radio station contest last year, but still impressive. However, no radio station contest quite compares to having a veritable viral video explode on the internet. Since posting the innovative one-shot video for Americanarama on Sunday night, the clip has already been viewed over 170 000 times, and looks like it should break the 200 000 mark easily over the weekend. It’s already come to the attention of notorious music industry commentator Bob Lefsetz, who tweeted this earlier today: “Buzz is building on this Hollerado video, everyone’s e-mailing me about it” No surprise that it’s getting so much attention. The low budget video was shot in one epic take (they had to slow the song down 400% to pull it off), 420 memorized sequences, and a hell of a lot of planning.

They’ve had a good run of low budget videos already. Previous strokes of luck involved bribing Dave Foley with beer to appear in a clip, and managing to get Margot Kidder to ham it up in another one.
