The soccer event of the year is less than a week away, and the vibes are already kicking in, as FIFA finally dropped the official album for the tournament on Friday.
With the World Cup being hosted across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the album aims to represent global soccer culture, featuring artists from all over the world.
Which Canadian artists made the album?
As one of the host countries, Canada is definitely represented, with four artists carrying the country’s name throughout the album.
Renowned pop sensation Nelly Furtado is a part of the celebration, with “No Place Like Home,” an upbeat collaboration with American electronic music group Major Lazer and Nigerian-American singer and producer Davido.
Jessie Reyez and Cirkut team up on ‘Illuminate’
Headlining the fourth-released World Cup gem “Illuminate” is Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez, in a collaboration with international sensation Elyanna, as well as Cirkut. According to FIFA, Reyez will be donating her fee from the song to charitable organizations. Canadian musician, songwriter, and GRAMMY Award-winning producer Cirkut also appears in the album, featured in a remix of The Rolling Stones’ “In The Stars.”
Toronto’s Nora Fatehi makes the cut
Toronto’s very own singer, dancer, and actress Nora Fatehi brings her unique blend of contemporary pop with Afrobeat and Middle Eastern beats to the song “Siir Siirr.” The song is a collaboration with French singer-songwriter Vegedream and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy.
