Toronto concert news: Bieber postpones again, CityView Drive-In returns

A photo of a Justin Bieber in a tunnel

Bad news if you’ve been using Justin Bieber as a bellwether for post-COVID life (as one does): his arena tour has been postponed once again.

Bieber’s tour, originally called the Changes Tour, was originally scheduled to come to Toronto at the Rogers Centre in September 2020. We all know what happened then. Eventually, as ambitious promoters began putting new shows up on the concert calendar again, Bieber announced the rescheduled tour, which would have brought him to Scotiabank Arena for three concerts in July 2021.

Now, he’s rescheduled the tour once again and renamed it the Justice World Tour after the album he released in March. The new 52-date 2022 tour will hit Toronto three times: March 25, June 7 and 8.

Will the shows happen? That’s almost a year from now, so we really hope so, but even with nearly 50 per cent of Canadians getting their first jab, it’s still hard to predict a concert with a capacity in the tens of thousands. You can gamble with a ticket on sale now at Ticketmaster, starting at $94.

Andy Shauf’s Neon Skyline tour

Another tour we were looking forward to before COVID shut everything down was Andy Shauf. Now, the Toronto-based singer/songwriter has announced a belated new tour for his early 2020 favourite Neon Skyline, an album set at the Skyline in Parkdale (which is currently closed due to the lockdown). That one will come to town on February 5 and 6, 2022, at Danforth Music Hall. Tickets are available on Shauf’s website.

The return of CityView Drive-In

Even drive-in concerts have been affected by Ontario’s stay-at-home orders, but CityView Drive-In has a new schedule based on the current regulations. It includes rescheduled concerts from Tokyo Police Club & Born Ruffians, Skratch Bastid, Big Wreck and more. Plus, a new monthly drag series headlined by Tynomi Banks. The concerts start this June.
