A line up of hundreds of job applicants outside of a new Mississauga restaurant has sparked discussion online about the state of the job market.
Footage of a winding queue of people looking for work at Mishree, an upscale spot serving cocktails and high end cuisine located at Britannia and Mavis roads, surfaced on TikTik over the weekend.
The video depicts a line of job hopefuls that stretches round the back of the restaurant and into the parking lot.
The owner of the video can be heard asking applicants how they heard about the opportunity to which they respond “online.”
According to the restaurant, which opened last fall, Mishree shared 20 job openings via Instagram ads, and saw 800 applicants show up to hand in their resumes.
A spokesperson for the restaurant told Now Toronto that there were a variety of roles available at Mishree including hostesses, servers, food runners and kitchen staff.
TikTok users were quick to comment on the video.
“It’s a job just getting a job. Nothing is easy. It’s a constant grind. I wish them all well,” one person said.
“Hopeless, this is so sad to watch,” another user wrote.
Mishree’s spokesperson said the hiring team collected resumes and spoke with all candidates.
“Mishree has the same owners as Tandoori Flame and are also considering applicants for opportunities at Tandoori Flame Mississauga and Brampton,” they confirmed.
Long lineups of job applicants were also seen at Pearson airport in late February, where 2,000 people showed up to fill 700 jobs.
