Online, users seemed excited hearing their favourite pop singers mentioned by the athletes, and are cheering on players for their guilty choices.
“All the guys saying Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Gracie Abrams are now my favorite players,” a user said.
Taylor Swift was one of the top mentioned artists, making up the guilty pleasure playlists of Mason Fluharty, Ryan Jennings, Kevin Gausman, and Jose Berrios.
The post also revealed that Gausman’s and Berrios’ Taylor Swift admiration are heavily influenced by the players’ daughters who are fans of the pop singer.
Tyler Heineman’s guilty pleasure playlist is dominated by the Backstreet Boys with the classics “I Want It That Way” and “Shape of My Heart,” as well as “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga and Chappell Roan’s trending hit “Pink Pony Club.”
“Pink Pony Club” was also mentioned by Robert Brooks, who said he constantly catches himself playing the melody on repeat in his head, even though he doesn’t know the lyrics.
“Brooks is elite at these q&a’s,” one X user said.
Meanwhile, Kevin Gowdy revealed that he doesn’t have a guilty pleasure song, given that he doesn’t feel guilty about any of the songs he listens to, which generated support from users online.
“Best answer by far,” a user commented.
“Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield also seemed to be very popular among players, including Davis Schneider and Riley Tirotta, with some fans even pointing out that the team should adopt the song as their new signature gem.
“Also I feel like Unwritten is the theme song of the Jays now,” a user said.
The Blue Jays are set to open this year’s spring season on Mar. 27 playing against the Baltimore Orioles.
