Halton police have recovered a dog safe and sound after it went missing following an armed carjacking in Oakville.
Police say on July 18, at approximately 1 a.m, a woman was driving her vehicle and stopped at the intersection of Dundas Street West and Trafalgar Road. A suspect vehicle then pulled in behind and made contact with her vehicle, according to a news release.
A male driver exited the suspect vehicle and distracted the woman while exchanging information. During this time, two additional suspects wearing balaclavas got into the woman’s car.
The suspects brandished a handgun and threatened the woman before stealing her 2021 Mercedes.
At the time of the carjacking, the woman’s dog was inside and was not recovered. Halton police described the dog as “a brown, tea-cup poodle wearing a blue halter and responds to the name ‘Louie.’”
Authorities say the stolen Mercedes was recovered in Toronto at approximately 2:00 am and was found abandoned.
On Tuesday afternoon, Halton police say the dog was found in good health by a resident in the area. The person took the dog to the Oakville Humane Society where he was reunited with his owner.
According to a Facebook post, the dog was found roaming loose on the streets of River Oaks Blvd. and Sixth Line in Oakville.
The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a five-foot-ten male with brown skin, clean shaven and possibly in their late teens or early 20’s. He was last seen wearing a two-tone grey sweatsuit
Currently, there are no descriptors for the other suspects or the suspect vehicle.
The suspects in this investigation are still at large and no arrests have been made. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
