If Canadians casted their election vote today the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) would bring home the win, according to a new poll.
Research firm Abacus Data revealed that the Conservatives currently have the biggest lead they’ve recorded since the Liberals were elected in 2015, according to its data.
In fact, the poll reveals that 42 per cent of committed voters would vote Conservative, while 23 per cent would vote Liberal, 19 per cent for the New Democratic Party (NDP), seven per cent for the Bloc Québécois and four and per cent for the Green Party.
“The Conservatives continue to gain over the Liberals, with their national lead rising to its largest in our tracking. The Liberals are trailing across every demographic group and in every region of the country – including Quebec,” Abacus Data CEO David Coletto said.
Coletto also notes that key issues impacting the change of heart of Canadians could be the cost of living, housing, healthcare, and the economy.
“I believe strongly that most voters ultimately vote for the party that they believe will best handle the issue they care most about. As scarcity becomes the primary concern for most people, the Conservatives have appealed more to these voters and find themselves in the most favourable position they have been in a long time. You have to go back to late 2008 to find a time when the Conservative Party was regularly polling around 40%,” Coletto added.
Some people online are welcoming the idea of a new government.
“The governments that caused the inflation crisis [are] being held to account as it should be,” one X user said.
“Covid Tyranny 2020-22 coming home to roost. Folks have realized governments are waaay over-bloated, incompetent & want to assert far too much authority over individuals,” another said.
“It’s also because of Trudeau’s catastrophic rule,” someone else chimed in.
The online survey was conducted with 2,417 Canadian adults from Nov. 23 to 28. The margin of error for a comparable probability-based random sample of the same size is plus or minus two percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
