Soccer fans can watch England and Argentina battle for a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at a free, day-long celebration in Vaughan this week.
Canada Celebrates the FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming to Assembly Park on Wednesday, Jul. 15, bringing live match action, musical performances, food vendors, and interactive soccer activities to the city of Vaughan.
The free, family-friendly event will run from noon to 8 p.m. at Assembly Park, located at 80 Interchange Way.
Hosted by Tony Monaco and Anna Dara, the celebration will be centred around a live viewing of the World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina. The match begins at 3 p.m. and will be shown on a large screen.
The entertainment begins before kickoff, with Toronto alternative rock band Stuck on Planet Earth scheduled to perform at 1:30 p.m.
The Springcreek Dancers and Singers from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation will take the stage at 2:20 p.m., followed by an official welcome from Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca and members of council.
After the match, Chris Kozy will perform at 5:05 p.m., while The Hip Experience, a tribute to Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, will close out the main-stage programming at 7 p.m.
Along with the live entertainment, a dedicated mini soccer pitch will host activities involving local youth teams throughout the afternoon.
Visitors can also take part in several soccer-themed challenges, including a pylon drill, ramp challenge, and shooting accuracy activity. Children will be able to build workshop kits at a Home Depot activation, while a Kia vehicle display will also be set up at the venue.
Food will be available for purchase from Pizza Italia Toronto, BeaverTails, 905 Hotdog Pound, and Bevi Birra. Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, which can be filled at the City of Vaughan’s water truck.
Fans are also invited to wear jerseys, carry flags, and represent their country or favourite semi-final team.
Bringing the World Cup beyond the host cities
Vaughan’s celebration is part of FIFA’s Canada Celebrates program, which was created to bring the World Cup experience to communities outside the official Canadian host cities of Toronto and Vancouver.
The countrywide program includes 38 stops across 34 communities, with events featuring live match screenings, cultural programming, music, food, and soccer activities.
According to FIFA, the selected stops are located within a two-hour drive of more than 75 per cent of Canadian residents.
Vaughan is the only municipality in York Region participating in the program.
How to get there
Parking around Assembly Park will be limited, and private paid parking lots are available nearby.
The City of Vaughan is encouraging attendees to take public transit.
Assembly Park is a short distance from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre TTC station at 3150 Highway 7 and the SmartVMC York Region Transit bus terminal at 58 Millway Ave.
Limited paid street parking is also available for a maximum of three hours along Apple Mill Rd., Buttermill Ave., Bent Tree Dr., New Park Place, Mable Smith Way, Autumn Harvey Way and Millway Ave. south of Interchange Way. Street parking costs $1.25 for every 20 minutes, or $3.75 per hour.
